Call for MAC 2023 Pop-Up Sessions

The Midwest Archives Conference will convene for its annual meeting April 13-15, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois.

Pop-Up Sessions:

The 2023 Program Committee invites pop-up session proposals on all aspects of archival practice and research, as well as from allied and related fields touching on the theme “Dig Deep.” We especially encourage submissions from students, new professionals, and first-time presenters.

Proposals are due Friday, January 27, 2023.

Pop-up sessions offer an opportunity to present on a topic that has "popped up" after the proposal deadline. MAC members will be able to vote for up to THREE 45-minute sessions that they would most like to see at the annual meeting in Chicago! Online voting will open in mid-February and presenters will be notified of the voting results by early March.

Submissions must include a 250-word abstract, names and contact information for all presenters, the type of session format being proposed, any A/V or special consideration requests for your session, and a diversity, equity, and inclusion statement.

The Midwest Archives Conference (MAC) is committed to advancing the archival profession and community. As such, we recognize a commitment to social responsibility which reflects values that are consistent with upholding and enhancing professional standards. We expect program sessions to reflect a commitment to a diverse and inclusive program and profession. As each session is composed of individuals and/or organizations with varied personal and professional experiences, perspectives, and identities, please indicate — in a summative way — how your proposal reflects individual, institutional, or geographic diversity or supports the development, inclusion, and stewardship of a diverse profession or cultural record.

This could include positionality statements that reflect on the unique identities of the panelists in relation to the work they will discuss, a recognition of dominant positionality inherent in your identity or organization, or the ways in which privilege and power manifests in the session and how you will use or respond to it. Situating your proposal in the larger context of the profession and community helps the Program Committee evaluate a wide variety of proposals, and ultimately contributes to a more balanced program.

To submit a pop-up proposal, please complete the Google Form at the following link: https://forms.gle/i1MfLuUHKTF2ydgy9.

Please note that the form will ask if you have also submitted a poster proposal or have already been accepted to the 2023 program. You are welcome to submit both a pop-up and poster proposal. However, you may be asked to choose to present in one format or the other in order to allow more opportunities for presenters at the 2023 meeting. If you have been previously accepted for the 2023 program, please consider not submitting a pop-up or poster proposal.

All Pop-up sessions are scheduled for Friday, April 14, 2023, from 11 to 11:45 am. Presenters MUST confirm they will be in attendance during this date and time in order to be eligible for the online vote.
