Archie Motley Memorial Scholarship for Minority Students

Purpose

  • To provide financial assistance to minority students pursuing graduate education in archival administration.
  • To encourage ethnic diversification of the Midwest Archives Conference and of the archival profession as a whole.

Award

  • Scholarship of $750 (2 awarded annually)
  • Complimentary 1-year membership to MAC (2 awarded annually)

Eligibility

There are eligibility requirements for both applicant and the graduate archival program which must be met for consideration for the MAC Scholarship for Minority Students in Archival Administration.

Applicant:

  • The applicant must be a student of African, American Indian, Asian or Pacific Islander, or Latino descent.
  • The applicant must be currently enrolled in a graduate, multi-course program in archival administration or accepted into such a program for the next academic year. See further program requirements below.
  • The applicant must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in their most recent academic year.

Program:

  • The graduate program must offer at least three courses in archival administration or be listed in the current SAA Directory of Archival Education. If the program is not listed in the SAA Directory of Archival Education ,the applicant must provide proof of the three-course standard by submitting copies of course descriptions from the institution's current departmental catalog.

Application

Applications must include the following documents:

  • Completed Application Form (Word)
  • Transcript from the applicant's most recent academic program.
  • Essay of not more than 500 words outlining the applicant's interests and future goals in archival administration.
  • Two letters of recommendation.

Award Requirement

Award winner will write an essay for the MAC Newsletter on their academic activities assisted by the scholarship and its importance to their graduate archival education.
